After parking the car by the trellis at the
bottom of the concrete drive the way to the flat goes down wooden
steps beside the house and around the concrete deck.
Garden
Retreat
Our grand daughter Suzette stands in front of the ranchslider
entrance to the flat and on the deck at the top of the steps
leading down to the garden and on down to the beach.
Meandering
Paths
The steps beside the flat meander down through the next section
of the garden and beside the small croquet lawn.
A colourful garden alongside the steps looking back
up towards the flat.
Croquet
Lawn
Gardens and part of the croquet lawn viewed from the upper deck
of the house. The hoops were removed while the lawns were mown!
Brian and a guest, playing croquet.
Outdoor
Seating
Most views from the property include the bay, the headlands or
the islands. At the far end of the lawn in the shade of the peach
tree is a squared log seat, one of several to be found in the
garden..
Rural
Neighbours
In the other direction is the neighbour's farm and more of the
bay.
Sea
Views
A view from the deck of the flat out to the Chickens Islands.
Tuis often perch in the high branches of the pohutukawa in the
background as well as visiting other trees around. Native pigeons
(kereru) feast on the berries of the monkey apple in front of
the pohutukawa.
Two sections of the succulent garden beside
the croquet lawn.
Another view from the deck in front
of the flat. This time of Bream Head at the entrance to Whangarei
Harbour.
Barbeque
Area
The paved barbeque area being shared with family and guests.
Bird
Life
Beyond the cherry tree is the lower area of the garden with the
water in the distance. Fantails enjoy this area as they catch
the small insects that form their diet.
Looking from the bottom gate there is the option of the meandering
path or the quicker steps to return to the flat.
Or the path leads on through the gate, down to the road and
on out to the 5kms of white sandy surf beach.
